Welcome

  • The opening weekend is over and hiking along the loops has started. A large map with explanations is now available at the station in Taberg. The corresponding map in digital version can be found further down here.
  • With the help of these, we believe that you can find your way around the system. We have received questions about a paper map to take with you and we are considering this, but do not think that it will be needed.
  • The tape markings on the loops are placed so that if there are no roads/paths leading to the left or right along a section of our loops, the markings are sparser. As soon as there are paths to choose from, a marking is placed there.
  • We will put out more arrows to help hikers choose the right one at a junction.

Email kjelvis@telia.com to suggest improvements.

  • The football golf course on the other side of the railway at the station has been marked more clearly. These were not found before. You can play whenever you want and it costs nothing. It is the same with the disc course on loop N2 on Åvägen. However, you must bring your own balls and discs.
  • The fishing area at Månsarpasjön south of the bridge has been tested. Angling with worms and maggots worked great in the openings we have made on the route. Perch and roach were pulled up to great joy.

Hiking breakfast from 07.00 can be booked at Hotell Taberg. 036 - 36 37 77

Lunch only needs to be booked for larger groups.

About Taberg 343

Kjell Johansson, Växjö but born in Taberg, is the originator of the hiking and activity centre under construction in Tabergsådalen; Månsarp, Taberg, Norrahammar, Hovslätt.

Jönköping Municipality is the project owner of Taberg 343 with funding from Leader Västra Småland.

Joel Säll from Jönköping’s kommun leads development groups in the four communities in Tabergådalen. These groups come up with ideas, for example, on how the hiking trails should be laid.

The Taberg Merchants' Association (Köpmannaföreningen) supports the project and the Local Heritage Association (Hembygdsföreningen) is actively involved.

Joel is responsible for the work in the mine shafts. A mine shaft has been secured and a staircase built to enable a longer and more varied guided tour inside the mountain of Taberg. Now you can enter one mine shaft and come out in another, allowing visitors to see more of the many shafts that have been closed until now.

In the open air, where Kjell is the project manager, we have created a system of trails that all start (and end) in front of Hotell Taberg / the station in central Taberg. You can get there by train, bus, car or bike, choose a trail that fits you and your family and walk it.

There are sixteen trails of different lengths. Along the shortest, suitable for families, various activities are offered that you can do during a break in your hike. Existing playgrounds and sports fields can be used, just like the barbecue areas and overnight accommodations that are located along the trails. Benches have been placed in suitable places.

We have, as far as possible, drawn the trails in nature. To achieve this, we have cleared old overgrown and forgotten paths along the Tabergsån north from Bergets gård.

Information

At interesting places (crofts, moving blocks, judge rings, mills, power plants, factories, houses, blast furnace sites and so on) QR codes will be set up so that walkers can get information on their mobile phones about the history and culture of the area. Each piece of information is supplemented with one or more photos that show the place in the past. The languages will be Swedish, English and German.

You can also access the information at home via your computer. Here are some examples:

Search for these names:  Stilles tennis court    Mattesdammen    Renstorps södra masugn

Can you start your hike in places other than in central Taberg?

Absolutely! For the loops to the north, for example, Skogskyrkogården, Smedjehov, the parking lot at Bruket and Hovslätts Hembygdsgård work perfectly. So, you don't have to go to Taberg. However, to be able to choose from all the loops, starting from Taberg would be necessary.

Marked and ready

All the trails are now marked and ready to test. You can hike clockwise or counterclockwise.

Central trails

The fully accessible trails on hard ground are opened in Månsarp (C) and Taberg (C1, C2). There will also be  two in Norrahammar and one in Hovslätt.

Additional Activities

Tree Knowledge: On branches of trees, round wooden plates hang with the text "TABERG 343." The plate is made from the type of wood it hangs on. Think about it, turn it around, and you’ll see the name in three languages.

Disc Golf: On loop N2 at Åvägen. Nine holes for the younger players. The world’s most hilly course with forgiving pars. Bring your own frisbee.

Football golf*: Walk over the railway track by the station. Bring your own ball.

Maze Building: Mazes are only found in northern Sweden and along the coasts. We intend to change that. At the bottom of Mattesdammen (which is drained), we will build a copy of an old maze from Rödkallen in the Luleå archipelago. Stones will be buried 2/3 into the ground to mark the rings. Anyone can help. It will probably take five years.

The Elves' Hidden Alphabet*: On loop E2, there are wooden plates with a letter and a word screwed to trees near the path. The first letter is about 100 meters east of the road barrier at Tahe bathing area and the last at Svartgölen.

You have to find these and write down the words on a piece of paper.

It is Mother Elf who has hung this up to teach the elves the alphabet. They have a hard time sitting still and want to learn while running.

Sledding Hill:The old ski jump hill in Taberg, Skidbacken, on Åvägen has been cleared by the municipality and will become a great sledding hill once the stumps are removed.

Bird Watching*: The leisure centers in Taberg and Månsarp have named and painted 31 birdhouses. First, you need to find them, then write down the name of each birdhouse, and of course, check if there are any tenants inside.

Fishing:Along Månsarpasjön, we have cleared some fishing spots suitable for fishing with a float and casting rod. Young people fish for free. Fishing along the shores of Tahesjön is completely free. Many good fishing spots can be found to the right of the bathing piers.

Fishing by Boat:A boat at Sjöhultasjön can be rented at ICA in Taberg. They can help you with this, and also provide fishing permits.

The goals of Taberg 343

To offer local residents and visitors meaningful outdoor activities.

Get children and young people to spend time in nature

To attract more visitors to the valley

Complement what already exists: The top, mining tours, the Industrial Museum, etc.
